Bin Laden accuses powerless Obama Osama bin Laden: Released message after anniversary of September 11 attacks AL-QAEDA leader Osama bin Laden has described President Barack Obama as powerless to stop the war in Afghanistan, and that Americans inability to grasp why the September 11 attacks occurred has cost you a lot without any result whatsoever. The remarks were made by the terrorist leader on a tape released two days after the eighth anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks. Bin Laden typically addresses the American people in a message timed around the anniversary. He said current White House officials are merely following the strategy of former President George W Bush to promote the previous policies of fear to market the interest of big companies. Rather than fighting to liberate Iraq as Bush claimed it [the White House] should have been liberated, he said. When Barack Obama became president and retained many of the Bush administrations military leaders, such as Defence Secretary Robert Gates, reasonable people knew that Obama is a powerless man who will not be able to end the war as he promised, bin Laden said. Liquid bomb plot trio are sentenced to life By WeSLey jOhnSOn hussain: To serve a mininum of 32 years AIRLINER bomb plot ringleader Abdulla Ahmed Ali was jailed for life with a minimum of 40 years yesterday for planning what the judge said was an atrocity comparable with the September 11 attacks. British-born extremist Ali, the leader of an al-Qaeda-inspired terror cell, planned to deto- nate home-made liquid bombs on board flights bound for major North American cities. Ali, was found guilty along with Assad Sar- war and Tanvir Hussain of conspiracy to mur- der on a mass scale by detonating bombs on airliners following the largest-ever counter- terrorism operation in the UK. Sarwar, 29, must serve at least 36 years, while Hussain, 28, was jailed at Woolwich Crown Court for at least 32 years. Trial judge Mr Justice Henriques said the gang was planning a grave terrorist atrocity which would have been comparable to the September 11 attacks. He said they would have succeeded without the intervention of the police and security services. The judge said the trio were convicted of the most grave and wicked conspiracy ever proven within this jurisdiction. He added that the airline bomb plot had reached an advanced stage in its develop- ment. He said the men had sufficient chemi- cals for 20 home-made detonators of com- mercial strength. Had this conspiracy not been interrupted, a massive loss of life would almost certainly have resulted and if the detonation was over land, the number of victims would have been even greater still. Im satisfied that there is every likelihood that this plot would have succeeded but for the intervention of the police and the security service, he said.
