The finance house revealed people who paid for goods on their cards on Friday were charged a second time on Monday because of a computer fault. It revealed some customers were unable to access funds because the error took them over their credit limit. In a statement, Bank of Ireland apologised to the customers affected and said while the payment of direct debits and cheques were not affected, a small number of standing-order payments may have been delayed by one day. The error has now been rectified on customer accounts and most customers will have experienced no adverse impact, it said. Duncan Morrow warned that, without a fundamental rethink, the same mistakes of years of conflict would be repeated. The flight of Roma from their homes in south Belfast earlier this summer and the large number of sectarian divisions highlighted the problem, the Community Relations Council chief executive added. It is seismic change we are talking about, not just a change in the weather that will go away. We need to stop deluding ourselves that without significant change anything will happen, he said while addressing a Unite Against Hate event in Belfast. Peter Power said, despite huge cuts in expenditure, Irish taxpayers were still making a real impact on the lives of millions of people all over the world. Shane OHalloran, from Enniskeane in west Cork, fell from the Lady Brisbane on Saturday night while apparently kissing a female companion aboard the vessel where a party was being held. The woman, thought to be a 26-year-old Irishwoman, was quickly rescued using a rope to haul her from the water, but 24-year-old Mr OHalloran, who could not swim, disappeared beneath the surface. Local police confirmed they located a body not far from where he went missing. A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said a formal identification has yet to take place.
